About Verde Mate

Verde Mate was inspired by the natural richness of the best Brazilian yerba mate plantations. This vast, diverse country draws people in with its colourful folklore and an ecosystem that is unique in the world. Every new trip to Brazil convinced us that its yerbas deserve wider exposure.

So we decided to create a brand that embodies the best of Brazil's mate traditions. In 2018, it grew into a collaboration with a trusted grower from the state of Paraná.

“Verde” means “green” in Portuguese, and the rich, grassy colour of the dried leaf is one of the brand's defining features. Green is the symbol of Brazil, a country of lush vegetation where millions of hectares are still covered by virgin forest, long called the “lungs of the earth”. Verde Mate is our way of honouring this one-of-a-kind place.

In search of the right partner, we travelled hundreds of kilometres of roads and tracks across the state of Paraná, famous for yerba mate. We wanted to find someone who shares the same ideals: respect for nature and people, care for tradition and the highest product quality.

We chose a small, family-run plantation west of Curitiba. The yerba mate grows there in conditions unlike those of typical plantations: semi-wild, among towering araucarias that shade the plant. As a result, the leaves are large and richly green.

The dried leaf that Verde Mate is made from goes straight into cold storage. This is how it keeps its green colour and grassy taste. Although Brazilians love the dusty blends known as chimarrão, Verde Mate is made only from carefully selected, coarsely cut leaves.
